Bina Das

Who was Bina Das?

Bina Das was born on 24 August 1911 in Krishnanagar, Bengal (British India). Her father name was Beni Madhab Das was a teacher of Subhash Chandra Bose. Her mother Sarladevi was a social worker who also secretly helped the revolutionaries.

Bina Das's sister Kalyani Das was also a revolutionary who was jailed in the country's freedom struggle. Whose parents and sister were freedom fighters of India, whose father was a teacher of a freedom fighter like Subhash Chandra Bose, his daughter could also be a revolutionary.

Why did Bina Das thought of killing the British Governor?

A novel named "Pather Dabi" written by Sarat Chandra Chotopadhyay became very famous in the country which was at the forefront of revolutionary spread. The novel wrote about the oppression and freedom inflicted on Indians by the British. So the British banned the sale of that novel. A copy of "Pather Dabi" was found by Bina Das.

Bina Das had read that novel which instilled in Bina Das hatred towards the British, resentment and a passion to do something for the country. So Bina Das joined the Yugantar organization run by the revolutionaries to teach the British a lesson. She learns that the British governor is about to come to Calcutta University and she planned to kill him.
